Once upon a time there was a Dronks. He was a very special 'friend' and distraction in the waiting. And then there came along a lot of Dronkeys. They too made our crazy little family fun and entertaining. They allowed me to get to know a whole new side of my husband, an imaginative side I didn't know was there when I married him. Annnnd then there was a Behr. Thankfully, mercifully, wonderfully, a real human babe. Some have asked where the Dronks and Co. are now and what life is like for them. (That tells you something about how much they were a part of our identified little family if people have asked. Oh us crazy Klesses.) Never fear they have not been put out to pasture. "Alf" sleeps in the crib with little Behr and can often be found snuggled up with Behr. I'm not sure who moves in to cuddle who but it seems to be an amicable arrangement. The others all stand guard over the crib from a shelf in the closet. I'm sure some day our kids will have questions as to why on earth there are eight Dronkeys in their toy bin but who knows. Perhaps somehow they'll know that these silly friends really are special.
"Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand... Once you are Real you can't become unreal again. It lasts for always." -- The Velveteen Rabbit
