How I Spent My Summer Vacation. By Dronkey.

In lieu of a child during our first year of marriage we have adopted Dronkey. He is half dragon, half donkey and is very cute and cuddly except when he's burping fire (or imitating his father and pretending to be a possum). He spends most of his time sleeping but tends to wake up just before bed to tell Mommy stories or complain about being neglected. He has not yet mastered flying but tends to fling himself across the room at his mommy or daddy on a regular basis. His best friends are Daddy, Miles the Moose, and Pigwidgeon... This is his account of the past week spent in Avon, North Carolina and Williamsburg, Virginia. And yes, we realize we're crazy but we entertain ourselves.

The first thing I did was go to North Carolina. I was very glad Mommy and Daddy did not forget me. I think they forget me a lot and don't bring me many places. We drove a long, long time and then finally got to the beach house that Daddy's parents had rented for the whole week. It was big!
At the beach house we did lots of things, mostly sleeping a lot and working hard so Mommy and Daddy didn't get too behind at work.

We went swimming in the pool every day and sometimes at night. I liked fimmin' in my fimmin' hoot. (Even though I don't really have one.)

Daddy and Mommy read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince out loud to me every day so that we could read the new book together as a family. Our favorite place to read was on the hammock. Mommy and Daddy's room had their own private porch with a hammock. They liked to go out there at night and snuggle.

And of course... we went to the beach! We went every day except for the day after Mommy got a bad splotchy sunburn. Daddy said she needed to stay out of the shade for 24 hours and let it cool down. Daddy and I don't know how Mommy gets sunburns like that. Neither of us do.

After we had been at the beach for a long (FUN!) time with Daddy's parents we packed up and drove towards home but stayed for two nights in Williamsburg so Mommy and Daddy could have some special time... with me!

(This is Clarisa. She liked me and helped us pack to leave. She does not like to have her picture taken. I taught her how to not be afraid of the hammock.)

In Williamsburg Mommy and Daddy left me alone a lot. They went shopping and went to fun places to eat. One day they did take me with them and I got to go to Colonial Williamsburg. I got to try on hats and saw lots of people in funny clothes. My favorite was a man working with leather to make a saddle that Daddy said were for Aunt Janet.

After enjoying the pretty weather and the special sites it was time to go home.

Our last stop was at Sonic. I think it's Daddy's new favorite thing. He especially likes the limeade and the slushies. I was glad he shared with me.

I may be only a stuffed animal (:-P) but I can tell my daddy loves my mommy very much. Thanks for taking her on this special trip and making her feel loved and special throughout it. I think I heard her say she loved you more listening to you read to her on the drive home than she did when you left on Monday.
